Arts Plaza - Story Behind the Mural
This mural is a collaboration between Wesi and the Wonderfolk 2024 Cohort. The concept celebrates plants as a metaphor for a natural
community, with young people depicted as eager plants ready to grow and shine
with unlimited potential. Diverse plant species represent the rich backgrounds
of our community, illustrating how creativity and color break the rigid
structures of society. Each plant enhances individuality, yet together they
form a resilient and vibrant community, demonstrating that we are stronger together.
Nature serves as a powerful example of coexistence, highlighting the harmony
and strength found in unity celebrating life at the same time.
Collaboration
Impressed with the mission and vision, Gibbins Kaplan
Development and Capstone Partners engaged Wonderfolk to install a mural on the
west end of the Arts Plaza Apartments. Wesi Murals (Christian Téllez) worked
with the Wonderfolk 2024 Cohort to design and paint the mural. The students
were the driving force of the project while Christian helped guide and refine
the process.

About Wesi
Originally from Mexico and with a background that includes
art, education, and architecture, Christian Téllez is passionate about making
spaces that feel like home for the communities we serve. He is a strong
believer in active community participation and improving neighborhoods through
art and personal action.
